Stiolto Respimat contains the two active ingredients tiotropium and olodaterol. They belong to a class of drugs called long-acting bronchodilators. Tiotropium belongs to the anticholinergic subgroup. Olodaterol belongs to the subgroup of long-acting beta2-adrenoreceptor agonists.

Stiolto: Dosage

Stiolto Respimat is valid for 24 hours. Therefore, use Stiolto Respimat only once a day, preferably at the same time, without skipping a dose. Make two injections during use. Use only as directed or as indicated by your doctor.

Undesirable reactions to Stiolto Respimat 

If any of the following side effects occur, stop using this medication (i.e. repeated inhalations) and contact your physician immediately.

Immediate allergic reactions to Stiolto Respimat are rare (up to 1 in 1000 people may be affected). These include skin rash, urticaria, swelling of the mouth, and face, angioedema, or other hypersensitivity reactions (such as a sudden drop in blood pressure or drowsiness).

As with all inhaled medications, immediately after inhalation, there may be:

• a feeling of tightness in the chest associated with coughing;
• wheezing breathing;
• heavy breathing;
• dark circles around the eyes;
• bowel obstruction.

Other possible side effects:

Infrequent (may affect up to 1 in 100 people): accelerated heart rate (tachycardia), dizziness, headache, cough, hoarseness (dysphonia), dry mouth.

Interactions

Tell your doctor if you are taking/using or planning to use other medications.

Let your doctor know if you are taking the following medicines:

1. Stiolto Respimat-like medicines (i.e. medicines containing similar active ingredients, such as anticholinergic or beta-adrenergic agents). Side effects may increase.  

2. So-called beta-blockers to treat high blood pressure or other heart problems (e.g., propranolol) or for elevated intraocular pressure (glaucoma; e.g., timolol). This may make Stiolto Respimat less effective.

3. Drugs that lower blood potassium levels, such as e.g:

• corticosteroids (e.g., prednisolone);
• diuretics (diuretic pills).

4. Medications for respiratory problems (e.g., theophylline).

If you take/use these medicines together with Stiolto Respimat, you may experience symptoms such as muscle cramps, muscle weakness, or cardiac arrhythmia.

Contraindications

• you are allergic to tiotropium or olodaterol or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed above);
• you are allergic to atropine or related substances, oxytropium or ipratropium

Inform your doctor or pharmacist, before using Stiolto Respimat, if you have:

• a heart condition;
• a high blood pressure;
• been diagnosed with an aneurysm (bulging of the arterial wall);
• diabetes.

Teenagers and children

Stiolto Respimat should not be used in children and adolescents under 18.
